The number you need is rarely the number you have. Published rate books age. A colleague's spreadsheet is from the last job, in a different state, at a different time. Steel and cement move between the day you price and the day you build. So estimators spend their time hunting for a defensible rate rather than thinking about the estimate.

The location index

Cost is not uniform across the country. Caprix applies a per-state multiplier across all fourteen states, so you can rebase a rate to the state the project is actually in — and, in the BOQ Builder, rebase a whole bill at once when you compare projects in different locations.

Rate build-ups and your rate library

When a published rate is not enough, build the rate up from its components — material, labour, plant, wastage, margin — and save the build-up to your rate library so the next project starts from your own figures rather than a blank row. The rate library is free on every plan; Corporate accounts add a shared company library alongside your private one.

From a question to a priced bill

Cost estimating and bill preparation are the same job at different resolutions, so Caprix keeps them in one workspace. Start with a question, move to a ballpark budget when the brief firms up, then build and price the actual Bill of Quantities when it is time to tender — carrying your rate build-ups across instead of retyping them.
